The National Archives of Scotland look after many of Scotland's most important documents and the jewel in their crown is the Declaration Of Arbroath. They thought a chocolate bar explaining the significance of the document would making an attractive gift for visitors.
Unsure exactly what form it should take, The Chocolate Library asked the National Archives to send information on the history of the Declaration of Arbroath and any relevant images. It was decided that it was important to see an image of the document itself, but this image would not work well on the bar front.
Instead, the most famous quote was extracted from the document and treated in a contemporary way. A condensed version of the history of the Declaration was then written by the Chocolate Library for approval by the National Archives.
The end result, a typographic solution, has resulted in a stylish, design-led gift that comes in striking blue and red versions, representing milk and dark chocolate.
