CASE STUDY THE NATIONAL TRUST FOR SCOTLAND

With over 297,000 members, the National Trust for Scotland is the largest conservation charity in Scotland. The organisation wanted to develop a range of branded gift chocolate bars that would appeal to people visiting some of the Trust's key attractions.

The Trust had already commissioned a series of watercolour drawings of the attractions and these were used as the starting point for the bar design. A unique Trust tartan had also been commissioned so this too was incorporated into the overall design to ensure the product would blend smoothly with other Trust branded products.

Inside the bar, text sharing the history of the attraction was required. Working with the Trust's current literature, the Chocolate Library team wrote a condensed version of the text for approval by the Trust's publications editor.

As a leading conservation charity, it was important to the Trust that the product had green credentials where possible. The paper selected for the packaging is FSC certified which represents responsible production and consumption of forest products. The printing of the boxes and the chocolate were both sourced and produced in Scotland ensuring a minimal carbon footprint.
